We made our way back to San Diego and the Homewood Suites near the airport and harbor. It was a good location for our last two days. It provided breakfast and Mon-Thursday, they had drinks, snacks, salads and soups. I use Hotel.Com to collect points for future hotels.
We unpacked and Miles talked me into letting him have a short swim as he saw another boy his age in pool. Zachy and I walked the beached and talked. He gets in the shadow of Miles and love to have you one on one.
We went over after supper to the harbor cruise. The boys really did not want to go! I thought the way they loved riding the Stanton Island Ferry, they would like it! Nope! Pouts and groans. Finally I took them aside and reminded them this was Papa's home town and sometimes he really missed it. I thought he would enjoy seeing his city again from the harbor cruise. They talked together for a few minutes and told us they were sorry they were pouting and having a bad attitude! They thanked us for the trip and how much we had done for them and they promised to go with us and Zachy said be cheerful!
I have to take a moment to say that all through the trip, we got lots of hugs and I love yous and thanks for taking us on this awesome trip. There was never a day they didn't say thank you!
When we got to the harbor it turns out I should have made a reservation as they were booked. The Midway, right next to it was still open. So I made it for the next day and we went to explore the Midway Aircraft Carrier. We watched the movie and turns out it was closing in 45 min but we could get ticket stamped and come back the next day.
We got to the flight deck and walked around.. As we came out we saw the simulators and promised boys next day to do it!
The next day we came early to the Midway. We did the 90 percent of the ship and the boys took turns listening to the audio gadget and answered questions on their booklet. At end they took it to the booth and the officer had them stand at attention as he bestowed their wings and had them salute. Zachy saluted with his other right hand!
Time for the Simulator! We all went on the first one which showed us how the plane took off and was mild and fun.
Then it was time to do the one where you get a pilot and a gunner. We could see those things going round and around! Zachy at the last minute decided not to do it. So I was already stuck with Miles, the maniac pilot! Geez Louise! The kid had me sideways, upside down, rotating till I was begging for the ride to end! I came so close to pushing that stop button! He of course thought it was fantastic!
I told Zachy he had made a wise choice not to go! At the end Miles said he would pay for a second time with Papa! That one I took pictures of it! As it was time to go, Zachy thought maybe he wanted to do it. But the line was too long and we had to get to the cruise. I told him it really was a bit scary and even I never wanted to do it again!
I had change the cruise to a 1 hour instead of two for the boys sake. But it was a great view of the south harbor and the boys got a glimpse of all the carriers in the bay. We were surprised to see so many. It is home to the 7th Fleet of the Navy.
Zachy said on the way home maybe he would be a pilot. Miles goes NO! You will get killed if you are military pilot! I hushed him and said it was a great goal and not every pilot came from the military! I said if you are a pilot for the airlines you could get me free tickets! Miles perks up, "Really? Zachy be a pilot and we will travel the world together!!"
